1972 marked a historic year in the UK calendar with the establishment of the Marwell Zoo. And since then, in Winchester, Hampshire, the countryside has been populating every year with thousands of local and foreign visitors. And many of these are the ones with higher interests in glamping at Marwell.

The Marwell zoo boasts 1200 creatures of 140+ different species and is vastly spread over an area of 140 acres. Although the place has been recognized for its breathtaking sceneries and glamping sites, to do so is limited. But, to make your search easier, I have found the perfect places with the best views and amenities to make your experience pleasant.

The Marwell Resort

First in the Marwell Glamping list is the well known Marwell Resort. Formerly known as Marwell Activity Centre and Marwell Outdoor Activity Centre, now this place has been renamed with a much more fitting name, the Marwell Resort. Located in Owlsbury in Winchester, this glampsite is only 3 minutes away from the Marwell Zoo. It stays open for business from March to October, which is also the best time for Marwell glamping sites. If you are looking at Marwell zoo glamping, this is the only place on this list.

The safari tents at Marwell Resort, specially built for glampers, come in two forms: Standard Safari Tent and the Delux. And if you can book your stay in the month of October, you will be eligible for 25% off each safari tent you book. The bookings here must be either three, four or seven nights.

The resort is one hell of fun if you are feeling up for it. Whether you are a set of friends, a couple or a family with teens or pre-teens, you will still find many activities in the resort to keep you occupied. Some of these are;

  • The adventure barn
  • Air rifle shooting
  • Archery
  • Clay pigeon shooting
  • Fishing in the lake
  • Junior quad biking (for kids)
  • Adventure Golf
  • Treetop adventures

While the above are some of the activities that happen throughout the season, if you are lucky to get in on the month of August, you wouldn’t miss out on the live music and family-friendly Rockstar BINGO. And if you have any pets, some of these tents even welcome pets into the campgrounds.

And let me quickly list down the amenities offered with the Safari tents at the Marwell glamping Resort.

  • Down bedspreads
  • Fully equipped kitchen
  • Private BBQ and firepit
  • Private parking next to the tent
  • Log burners and many more

If you fancy glamping in a safari tent or a two-story lodge overlooking the countryside of the Hampshire Meon Valley, then Beechen is the most felicitous Marwell glamping site. Not only that, but while here, you will always feel closer to nature no matter how deluxe your stay is. It is simply modernity surrounded by greenery, something hard to come by in the 21st century.

The Southdown trails that wind around the site are yet another unique feature of Beechen glamping, adding life and excitement to your stay. Walking or cycling down this trail, you will be introduced to deer, hares, and buzzards in their natural habitats.

Next to the Southdown Trails, the site is also amidst many other local attractions, including the Marwell Zoo, Blue Reef Aquarium, Itchen Valley Country Park, Manor Farm and Country Park (adventure parks), New Forest Reptile Centre, and Whiteley Shopping Village. This list keeps on going with several different museums, historical places, parks and many more.

The facilities this place offers are down below.

  • Firepit BBQ
  • Log burner
  • Private washrooms
  • Fully equipped kitchen (less dry foods)
  • Fridge and Microwave
  • Power sockets and lighting
  • Private hot shower

Beds are provided when you book a lodge or a tent, but for added comfort, you must bring your own bedding.

With 270+ acres in the site, this is one of the biggest camping sites in the Hampshire countryside, without a doubt. The view over the Test Valley and the Salisbury plains is such a divine sight that it can immediately put all your stress away. And if you want the luxury at its best without the disturbances of the modern, busy cities, you can book one of the Safari tents at Gembledown farm.

These tents are equipped with three bedrooms to accommodate up to 6 people, dog-friendly gas hobs, an ensuite bathroom, BBQ, running water (hot and cold), etc., the kitchen is fully equipped with all the modern machinery you need, and you must bring your own food for cooking. You may even buy the farm products such as eggs, sausages, steaks, and burgers fresh out of the Gambledown farm.

The scenery you will wake up to every day, with dew-kissed grass and circling sky-high trees, will take your stress away and relax you immediately. You may even practice outdoor or indoor yoga if you are feeling like it. The site has its own yoga studio with underfloor heating to keep you warm on chilly days. If you are more of an explorer, the following attractions are within a few minutes drive.

  • Marwell Zoo
  • The Peppa pig world
  • Stonehenge
  • South coast beaches
  • Paultons Golf Centre and park
  • Hawk Conservancy Trust
  • Hillier Gardens

Brocklands Farm Glamping

My final selection in the Marwell Glamping list and one of my all time favourite. The best way to get away from the crazy lives we live in big, polluted cities is to drive to the countryside. But to do so, you don’t have to go too far because the Brocklands Farm glamping site is less than 65 miles away from London.

And because this site only has two cosy Safari tents named Yellowhammer and Lapwing, your getaway will not be disturbed by the crowds. The place is nestled in the centre of the Meon Valley and the Southdowns National park amidst a breathtaking meadow. And it is one of the perfect spots in this area within 20 minutes drive from the Marwell zoo.

The best part of glamping on this site is watching the sun go down over the valley in the evening. The last rays shed by the sun for the day will illuminate the area bathing the trees in a warm light before disappearing, and those few minutes will give you hundreds of insta-worthy pictures.

Features of the Safari tents at Brooklands Farm:

  • Luxurious beds with equally deluxe bedding
  • Separate bathroom cabin with toilet (towels and essential toiletries provided)
  • Fully equipped kitchen and dining table
  • Wood burner
  • Solar-powered paraffin and fairy lights
  • Coffee, tea, oil, vinegar, and freshly picked herbs will be provided
  • Drinking water
  • Solar powered fridge
